You read that right!

And what happened? Nothing.

But I did download a 260 gigabyte old Minecraft world off Internet Archive. I had been playing the world for several years, the server shut down. So naturally, I downloaded that big ass zip file. It took somewhere around 8 days to download. And then promptly failed after downloading the last byte. Why do you ask it failed? Well, that is because the gienouses at Fedora decided to replace the tried and trusty wget version 1 with the Jabroni ass wget version 2. You know, that all new version that the new developers butt fucked and left on the street for others to hump or run over. I think rediscovered Internet Archives IA python download program and used that to yet again, download the 260 gigabyte file. 8 days later, I had the world!

So now armed with this gigantic ass world. We’re talking about 500+ gigabytes after it was uncompressed. I dug out my old trusty workstation computer and put a couple new Teamgroup SSD drives in it and installed Fedora, with that crappy ass wget2 of course. By this time the developers probably got sick of peoples heads splitting open so they updated it.

So now I have a Minecraft server open to the public. Did I change much of anything in the world? Nope. The only thing I didn’t do was install the original data packs. I did add some useful plugins, but otherwise it’s a regular SMP (Survival Multi-Player). I created a page link, you can see it on the top menu that has a status to tell you if it’s online or not. It will eventually have a link to the Dynmap of the world. Think of it as Google Maps for a Minecraft world. It’s kinda cool.
